Birth Photography

I think parent's will agree that the birth of their child is one of the happiest moments in their entire lives. Words cannot describe the emotions felt on that day. The first time you lay eyes on your child, something inside of you changes forever. It's an incredibly humble and intense moment that will rock your world for the rest of your life. It's something that we vow never to forget. As time passes, our memories fade and those details that we vowed to never forget become more difficult to remember. Scheduling a birth photography session is something that you will be grateful for when those days of faded memories arrive. You will be able to look back at the powerful images that CLP captured on that day and be taken back to those first moments in your child's life.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should I hire a Birth Photographer?

As we stated above, the birth of your child is one of the most important days of your life. Hiring a birth photographer not only helps document this wonderful experience in your life, but it will also free up your partner or other support persons so that they can focus on this moment with you. Hiring CLP ensures you get those memorable moments captured with your partner in them as well. Without hiring a birth photographer, you may be left with just a few shots of your baby after delivery. We will help you to capture more than just a few shots and instead, document your labor process and your birth miracle.

What is Birth Photography?

It's not a secret that labor and delivery of a child is very unpredictable. In addition, the lighting is usually dim or dark and it’s difficult to always plan what’s going to happen next. We will document your labor and birth as it unfolds naturally in a photojournalistic style. We will be sensitive to your needs as a laboring woman and make sure to document quietly and unobtrusively.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Charleston, SC and the surrounding areas. It is important to receive permission from your doctor before scheduling your birth photography as some hospitals and/or practices do not permit photography during medical procedures.

When do you arrive for the birth and how long will you stay?

We will arrive during active labor (usually around 5cm) and will stay up to 2 hours afterward. It is your responsibility to contact us or delegate your spouse or support person to contact us.

What if you don’t end up making it to my birth?

We make sure to only take a one birth per month to ensure that we can attend each birth that is scheduled. If we miss your birth due to our error (ie: due to illness, attending another birth, unforeseen emergency), you will receive a refund. If we miss your birth because it was too fast or you did not call us in time, there is no refund and you will receive a Fresh 48 session instead. Your remaining credit balance will remain on file for future use. We recommend our Grow With Me Package as an alternate option.

How long will it take to receive the images?

Post processing takes 1-4 weeks.

Do you photograph my "privates"?

Don't worry, we will discuss what you would like photographed and what you do not.  Some women do want pictures of the baby coming out and others do not. Your comfort is our top priority, so we will photograph as much or as little as you desire.

What if I have a C-Section? Can I still have a birth photographer?

If you are having a planned Cesarean birth, you will need to ask your doctor if they will allow a photographer in the operating room along with any other support person you have. Some doctors allow this and some do not. If your cesarean is unplanned, you may still ask, but it may be unlikely that we can go in with you. If that takes place, don't worry, there are still plenty of beautiful moments to capture before and after your cesarean birth! We will stay at the hospital to document those first moments in the postpartum room, or we can come back later to photograph bonding time with your newborn. We recommend discussing this option with your doctor at the time of scheduling so that you know what happens in the event of an emergency situation.

Newborn Sessions

Your pricing investment covers the cost of the photographers time, editing and artistic talent as well as 20 digital images available for immediate download via a password protected online viewing gallery and a print release.

Here at CLP, we provide lifestyle newborn sessions. We will pose your newborn naturally because we believe that to many props and poses are an unnatural depitcion of your baby during this time in his or her life... instead we want to capture the raw emotion of your family. Our attention is focused on the feelings that you and your baby are going through, the way your baby will grab momma or daddy's fingers and they way they wiggle their chubby little toes. Your pictures perfectly depict this time in your lives.

In order to insure that you capture your baby at this age, any newborn session should be scheduled in advance based on your due date. Your appointment will be considered tentative/floating and will be finalized once the baby arrives. These sessions typically last 1-2 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, changing & to capture those sweet, sleepy pictures.

Fresh 48 Session

This session takes place within 48 hours of your baby's birth, usually in your hospital room. You may include family members in your photographs or any items special to you and your newborn. This is a lifestyle portrait session, so the photographer will be capturing those moments as they happen in addition to hospital bracelets, the nursery, fresh new baby skin and most importantly your emotion. Minimal retouching is done to your baby's skin to preserve the raw integrity of each moment we are capturing. Every picture captured is true, raw and real.

Fresh 48 Session Rate: $180

High-Resolution Disk: $35/each

Newborn Session

A standard newborn session takes place within the first 2 weeks of life at your home. The session takes 1-2 hours, so there is plenty of time to take a break to nurse or change a diaper. CLP provides a lifestyle photography session to capture your newborn's newness, the peach fuzz, the squishy folds, the sleepy face and yes, the first cries, too! You will treasure these memories of just how little your baby was! We will provide basic retouching to your baby's skin to if you wish.
